What is an AI browser agent?

By the Claude Duet team··7 min read

A chatbot answers. An agent acts. Here is what changes when your assistant can click and type on real web pages, and how to use that power safely.

From answers to actions

A classic AI assistant reads and writes text. A browser agent goes one step further: it can open pages, find buttons, type into fields and move through multi-step flows the way a person would.

What agents are good at

  • Repetitive forms: contact forms, applications, sign-up details.
  • Comparisons: opening several pages and collecting prices or specs.
  • Searches with filters: flights, rentals, products.

What should always need your approval

Good agents separate safe steps from important ones. Payments, signing in, sending messages and submitting personal data should always pause for an explicit yes. In Claude Duet these steps show an approval card with Skip and Allow.

How to write a good agent task

Be specific about the goal and the limits: “Find the cheapest direct flight from Lisbon to Rome for 12–15 May, do not book” works much better than “find me a flight”.

The takeaway

Use an agent for the boring middle of a task and keep the decisions for yourself. That is where the time savings are, and where control matters most.
